ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
Revealed at the 1959 London Motor Show, the DB4 GT was a sharper, lighter, and more focused evolution of the standard DB4. The chassis was shortened by five inches, the body pared down by 85 kg, and under the bonnet sat a 3.7-litre straight-six producing 302 bhp and 270 lb-ft, fed by a trio of Weber carburettors. The result was a top speed of 152 mph and a 0-60 time under six seconds; headline figures in period, and still impressive today. Just 75 ‘Touring’ bodied examples were produced, including a handful of lightweights designed purely for the track. Yet even in its most focused form, the DB4 GT remained unmistakably an Aston Martin: elegant, composed, and effortlessly fast, laying the groundwork for the DB5.
